Ab Workouts – The Most Effective Times To Do Them
As you get started with your ab workouts program, it’s important to give some thought and consideration to when you’re performing the sessions in the overall context of your week.
Some people feel somewhat confused over this issue and just throw them in whenever they think of it.
Others want to know exactly for sure the best time to be doing their ab workouts and that’s what we’ll set out to answer in this article.
Here are the factors to consider when deciding when to do your ab workouts.
On Off Days
The first time period that can definitely be used to perform your ab workouts is on the days you take off from the gym or just do your cardio training. Since ab workouts are not going to be all that stressful on the body you won’t really have to worry about them compromising your ability to recover and having an impact on your usual weight lifting sessions.
The nice thing about doing them on your off days as well is that the abs will be very fresh themselves so you can get the most from the exercises you perf
After Your Weight Lifting Workouts
The second time that you might do your ab workouts are immediately after your weight lifting workouts. This is another great time to place them because of the fact that they’ll already be slightly fatigued from that resistance training session.
This means that you’ll have to do less work overall to get them fully stimulated thus reducing back on the volume of ab exercises that must be performed.
Each and every time you do a regular exercise in your weight lifting workout plan the abs will be called into play to a small extent and that is what will bring about that mild level of fatigue.
The Problem With Ab Workouts Before Lifting Workouts
Now, one thing that you have to consider is the issue with doing them before your weight lifting workouts. Some people choose to believe that doing them at this time is a great way to warm-up, but this isn’t the case.
Because of the fact that the abs will be used to stabilize the body in every exercise you do, if you pre-fatigue them with too much direct work, you’re not going to be able to lift as heavy on all your other exercises.
This then means a lower level of results from your workout session and therefore moves you backwards rather than forward.
If you are going to do your ab workouts on days you do your lifting, always make sure to put them after the lifting session for best results.
So those are the main points to consider. You should aim to perform your ab workouts three times while keeping the intensity high. If you do, you’ll be on track for results.
